Oakland violence prevention programs set to receive $13M in extended grants
The Oaklandside article titled "Oakland violence prevention programs set to receive $13M in extended grants" discusses the Oakland City Council's decision to extend $12.8 million in one-year grants to community- and school-based programs aimed at reducing violence. This temporary funding is intended to support these groups while the Measure NN committee is being established to create a four-year public safety strategic plan for the city.
Among the organizations receiving extended grants are the East Bay Asian Youth Center, Youth Alive, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice, the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, and the Family Violence Law Center. These grants will fund various services, including hospital visits to gunshot wound victims, crisis lines, mental health services, transitional housing, legal representation, and peer support groups.
Gianna Tran, a Class of 2003 LeaderSpring Alum, is associated with this initiative, highlighting the impact of LeaderSpring's leadership development programs in fostering community leaders involved in violence prevention efforts.
